October Lull Come Early - Bushnell Trophy Cam HD

Well, it seems like that anyway. After a long weekend of getting shut out in south western Oklahoma, I am back to work. There aren't many times I can go out to hunt and get completely gassed on deer movement. Does typically move during the day, but nothing this time. Checking the cameras was no different. The deer have been on solid night movement for the past two weeks. Hopefully this weekend's hunt will produce some much needed day movement. The game cameras that I've completely switched to are the Bushnell Trophy Cam HD cameras. These cameras really center the animals well and don't cause any alarm to ward off critters. Trigger time seems to be perfect and set up is way easy. I, like most men, don't like to read instructions. Having an easy camera to set up goes along way in this guys book. Here are a few pics that this camera has produced. I've had the camera for roughly one year, but have used it year round. As far as price is concerned, I believe you get what you pay for. These cameras typically run around $199.95. If you have a bunch of deer and constantly want quality pictures that don't leave you guessing how big a deer really is then this is a great option for you. Helpful Trail Camera Hint: I like to use these cameras at feeding stations. It is obvious by the pictures, but if only to concentrate the deer to one location over a large property. You can really get a good idea of what deer you have in your area. If you don't have a feeder just place a small bit of rice bran in front of your camera and watch the deer pile into the frame. Rice bran runs about $10/50-pound bag, which will last you all season long if you only use it for your camera set up. Plus, at 12 percent crude protein the deer are getting some additional nutrients that corn doesn't offer.

V1 Facial Hair Friday

Let's face it. Guys don't always make the best decisions when it comes to bet or deal making. Sometimes we just don't think. However, we are willing to stick to our bets for as long as we can - no matter how stupid they may be. My hunting partner and I made a deal that we couldn't shave the face unless that individual shot a good buck. The growth period started October 1 so it should be interesting to see how long I can actually last. It will be interesting to see if I can last because I've never grown my facial hair out. I am sure my wife is thrilled with this fact. She gets scratched when I kiss her, but it's for the cause. So, every Friday I will post a picture of the progress. If, by chance, I shoot a good one you will know on a Friday by a clean shaven mug. KJ

What's in a Name?

Okay, here it goes. I am going to consciously make an effort to blog nearly everyday. I am switching directions a bit. This is going to become an outlet for hunting and fishing. The views I express are my own and are no way a reflection of the companies that I represent. You should expect some product reviews and tips to incorporate on your next adventure. My current two followers should love this. I will also let you in on some adventures that I take and life as I know it. First off, the name "Weathered Road Outdoors." Where does it come from? I run the roads ragged whether it is headed to hunt, fish, marathon training or work. My wife can attest to this fact. There are so many things in this world worth doing, and I aim to do as much and experience as much as possible. There is nothing in life worth missing, and if it is a weathered road you must take to get there, even better. Oklahoma bow season has kicked up, but this season seems a bit different. We have a new lease that sprawls approximately 4 miles of ground. This makes it hard locating deer, but I don't think you can go wrong in Southwest Oklahoma. Deer appear out of nowhere, and they seem to get larger every year. I have a bunch of new products I am using this year. Once I have a proper chance to use them I will let you know how they are working. I've seen a bunch of product reviews out there that simply don't matter. They take them out the first time and make a judgement call from one-time use. Simply pointless if you ask me. Products and tips from this blog will be thoroughly tested based upon seasons of use. If you are lucky you might even get a few videos out of this deal. KJ

It Happens.....

Here's how life can be summed up. It happens. You can apply this saying to just about everything in life. I had, yet another, miss on a big deer. This is so frustrating, but if you hunt enough times in life you will have misses and goof ups. Mine was a goof up. I simply pulled the shot left when typically I pull a bit right.

It is frustrating to think I missed a shot to be half way finished with my season. I bet Julie is frustrated as well.

Hopefully this is the last post of this nature.

The following posts will be more of a joyous nature.

Here it Goes

The hunting season has started and it is becoming a routine of weekends on the road and in the blind. I really enjoy the time in the stands. With that said, I really would like to have my son in the stand with me. This would make life so much easier because then I wouldn't miss him when I am gone.

I would take my wife but we tried that twice and the first time it was to cold to even sit there. Our next venture she spent the morning hunt in the truck when I forgot where the key was. The original plan was to have her sleep in the cabin while I went hunting.

It really didn't pan out how we/I planned. I think it was actually some fun time. It sounds goofy, but it was eventful.

Hawaii Bound

It is only a couple days till we go to Hawaii. Yes, it sounds exciting and trust me I'm jacked. Here is how we see it in our minds. We party and stay up late having a great time.

The reality. We will probably be in bed by 10, well maybe 10:30, if we really hit the town hard and we will be up early to catch the morning buffet at Dukes.

Our college bodies are telling us to party like it was 2001, but our parent minds are telling us we have a bunch of beaches to lay on so you better relax.

To be honest, I hope we are able to hang with the young folks. I'm not saying I have something to prove, but we don't have the kid and all this time to ourselves.

We need to make it count. Who knows when the next time this will happen again.

Dang you Food...and Beer!

My arch nemesis is undoubtably food and some beer. I have a weakness for sweets and every once in a while I dip into the alcohol pool. I really don't see anything wrong with these - unless you're training for another marathon.

I am into my training routine but with bowls of candies and friends urging me to partake in just one drink life seems to be getting more difficult.

I have been able to abstain for the most part. I have cut out sweets almost entirely and have restricted my drinking to red wine only.

These two vices have loosened their grip, but with friends like mine there is no telling what may happen. I hope one day they will just let it go and just assume that I am always in some type of training routine. This would help say no much easier.

I've really put my foot down this time. I am not out to lose a bunch of weight. I just want to be the healthiest I can be. One day there won't be times in my life where I can just shed pounds by running 10 or 12 miles. It will become burdensome to lose a single pound.

My knee is getting better. I have to make myself ride the bike, but in the end I feel better because cycling is a great way to help knees recover. I will keep both of you posted on the progress. I am going to attempt to update at least once a week. Till then wheres the cupcakes?
