I've been tossing and turning with my decision to run the marathon or half marathon this year. I am going to man up and make a decision based off my current knee issues to run the half marathon.
I should be ready for it in a few weeks, but don't think I'd be ready to run the full. Plus, my training would be non stop for the full and I want to take it easier.
Life has been really good if you two have been wondering. I am really happy to be home for a while. Just livin the dream.
I am just a regular outdoor PR dude with tremendous hair. Life has turned out pretty spectacular. When you have a wife and son like mine life just seems to get better each day. They are the light in a dark room, and the standard which all others things compared fall short. Julie, is an accomplished mom and author. Jett, well, is a typical four year old with tremendous hair. The outdoors is where I find my peace. This blog should reflect that.

Improvise
One of the best things about life is the ability to adjust on the fly. It seems that people are constantly attempting to avoid a daily event that we can't avoid - improvising. True, some are better than others at improvising, but we all must do it at some point.
I came out shining yesterday because I was able to improvise without dipping deep into the old pocketbook. As I was driving back to Norman, a blowout occurred just outside of El Reno. I was without proper equipment to change a flat tire, but that didn't matter. I was heading back from picking up elk and deer meat from the processor. This would become important later. When the tow truck arrived we were unable to change the tire so the truck needed towing to an El Reno GMC Dealership.
The amount owed began to rise, and I needed to improvise. I offered to give Moore Towing guy some of the processed meat, and he accepted. I was able to get out of the high bill with a simple offering. The same situation happened with Rick Jones dealership. They helped me change the tire and get me on my way. I gave them some elk and deer. They helped me get on the road.
I love improvising with life. It keeps me on my toes. I'm not saying I'm great at improvising, but if presented with an opportunity I am going to take it and run.

Plans Do Work
My typical hunt is very frustrating. When you are the one that has the rights to hunt it is difficult when you hunt with others. This is the situation I face each weekend. I have to figure out where to put people, and then I have to figure out where I am going to sit.
I usually end up putting the others in the better spots, but not on purpose. I think long and hard about what stand to sit. Then I place them accordingly.
This weekend it all worked out in my favor. I was able to shoot a great 11 point on Saturday morning. The big boys haven't started chasing, but the smaller bucks are running wild. A few of them squared up on each other to lay claim to a few does. It was an exciting sit each time I went out. It seemed like I sat the right place every time. I love it when a plan comes together.
I have one buck tag left and will hold onto it like a golden ticket until a big dude steps out.

Life of a Traveler
It is tough to a traveler. I miss my family most of all when I am on the road. It is tough to imagine the guys and gals that are on the road constantly. I don't know how they do it? When I am on the road a little part of me wants to think that Julie and Jett don't know how to get through without me, but Julie is so good she gets by without a hiccup. It is good to be home with my family, and I don't see travel in my future till at least mid-December.
But of course, that doesn't include hunting over the weekends.

Voice of Reason
Let's be honest, we all have that one person in our lives that acts as our filter. Julie is mine. When I get frustrated I just let it fly. I know it is really hard to believe that I just let my emotions run my rounds. She is a great filter. I wouldn't want it any other way. She controls the thoughts more than I care to admit, but I really do ask my self what would Julie do or say in this case. When I say it out loud it sounds pretty funny now that I think about it.

So it Begins.
Another season has started, and I am sure Julie is regretting the day I was introduced to hunting. I had a great weekend, but nothing hit the ground. I think it was in large part due to the temperatures and just being early in the season. It was extremely enjoyable to get home early to see the family.
It is really unbelievable how much he changes in the few days since I was gone. He really does change every day it seems. Julie has been doing great. She has been getting great news on the writing front, and really has been putting in extra effort to pursue her writing career. She is leaving in a few weeks for Vegas and I know I should worry about her breaking the bank when she goes...wait that would be me.
Anyway, all is well on this front.
